Wednesday 8th December
2010 saw Surrey Heath Probus Club hold its Annual Ladies Christmas Dinner at
Camberley Heath Golf Club.
We gathered at 6.15 p.m. for a welcome
glass of wine before we sat down at table at 7.p.m.
The tables looked very festive with
Christmas crackers, a gift for the Ladies, and a centre table decoration of
holly, ivy, flowers etc. painstakingly made by Janis Leney.
Grace was said by our President, Eddie
Hardy, after which we sat down to a scrumptious dinner. Although the
occasion was a Christmas celebration – it was decided that we would all have
a suffiency of Turkey and Christmas Pudding over the coming weeks. It was
therefore decided we would have a un-Christmassy menu of:
-
Fried Brie with Redcurrant Jelly
-
The main course of Baked Ham with
Mustard and Apricot glaze in a Sherry sauce, served with potato’s and
seasonal vegetables
-
Dessert was a meringue nest filled
with cream, soft fruits and ice cream.
-
Dinner and ended with coffee and mince
pies
It was memorable - a veritable feast.
We were then entertained by Elizabeth Toye,
a Soprano with a beautiful voice, and her brilliant accompanist on keyboard.
She gave a short, varied programme of about 30 minutes. It included excerpts
from Die Fledermaus and Marriage of Figaro, followed by songs from the
musical theatre: My Fair Lady, Wicked and Carousel. She concluded her
performance with Christmas Songs, O Holy Night and The Christmas Song.
The President then proposed the Loyal
Toast and the Toast to Surrey Heath Probus Club. Peter Webb proposed the
Toast to the Ladies, Pat Ford responded for them.
To close the evening, the President
thanked the Committee for all its efforts in ensuring these events run
smoothly. He especially thanked Mike Morley who designs the Menus, prepares
the table plans, and prints the name cards.
The evening came to a close at about 10.15
p.m. after a most enjoyable night, notable for good food and excellent
company.
